The topic of this discussion was about lowering voting age. Many 20-year-old people scream and drink, and have a bad attitude at a coming-of-age ceremony. It seems that they don't have a responsibility for adults. To give them responsibilities as adults, people live in the town decided to give a right to vote from 16-year-old people. But some people don't agree with this opinion.
There were five panelists: Ryuzi, Koyama, Takashi, Mio, and Chikako. Ryuzi is 20 years old, and works as a fire fighter. He agree with the opinion and he thinks if students have a right to vote, they will think about politics and society more. Mr. Koyama is the mayor of the city, and he also agree to give 16-year-old people a right to vote. Because if they have a right to vote, they have a responsibility for being adults. Takashi is a high school teacher, and agree with the opinion. He suggests that young foreigners have clear opinion and interests for politics, so Japanese young people should learn from them. Mio is 16 years old and a high school teacher. She disagree with the opinion because she doesn't understand about politics. She thinks 16 years old is too young to decide the good person for politics. Moreover, she suggests that 18 years old is much better than 16 years old because they have knowledge more than 16-years-old people. Chikako is an university student, and 20 years old now. She doesn't go to a selection because she doesn't know about the situation of politics even she is 20 years old, so she thinks 16-years-old people also don't know it. After break time, a panelist suggested that having a right to vote have nothing to do with the bad attitude of new adults. The mayor answered that he wanted them to have a consciousness as adults, so giving a right to vote is effective. The outcome of this discussion is to give a right to vote for 18-year-old people after three years, and the mayor will make a manifest more easily for them.
In my opinion, having a right to vote is nothing to do with the bad attitude or low consciousness as adults of new adults. I think there is another way to solve this problem.
This discussion was difficult to lead a convincing answer because of the topic. I couldn't understand the importance of this discussion. Moreover, their voice is too small to listen.
